Where does the leather come from?
Here at Leather Treasure we sell top quality skins, hides, scraps and fur most of which we buy in Spanish tanneries. Most of the leather comes from Spain, having famous leather worldwide, but some is also imported from outside Spain such as Italy.
All the leather that we sell we use or would use in the making of our own garments and accessories. We hand pick each skin to guarantee you quality and uniqueness in your purchase.
How are leather skins and hides measured?
Leather skins and hides come from animals and therefore have an unpredictable shape. No two skins or hides are the same due to their irregular shape. In order to accurately measure the skins we utilize exclusive hi- tech machinery, and laser technology to measure the entire surface area of the skin. The skins are measured in square footage which refers to it`s total surface area. So if we say that a skin has 6 Sq.Ft we mean that it will have a complete surface area of 6 Sq. Ft (Leather Sq. Ft. should not be confused with fabric Sq. Ft).
Because animals are neither square nor rectangular it is imposible to give these types of measurements. We do however in some of the descriptions of the skins or hides try to give an idea of these measurements for our buyers who are unfamiliar with the skins and hides.
If you are not familiar with how a hide shape looks or the size of hide you need you can always email us with the measurements you are looking for and we will gladly indicate the size of hide or skin which would best suit your needs. Otherwise we suggest you order one hide before you commit yourself to a large quantity. Remember NO two animal skins are the exact size and shape.
What sizes are the leather scraps?
The leather scraps which we sell are remnants or pieces which we are left with after making our handbags and jackets. We do not make small accessories and therfore our scraps will never be tiny pieces or little strings of leather. Unfortunately we cannot give measurements for each scrap as they are irregular sizes and it would be very time consuming for us.
Our scraps are from Top Quality, mostly Lambskin, although we do have some in cowhide, which we use in making our own garments and accessories for our stores. These scraps are great for DIY projects such as;
Scrapbooks, craft projects,
jewellery, bracelets, buttons,
handbags, hats & gloves,
small garments or accessories,
If you have a specific project in mind with exact measurements you can always contact us and we would be glad to let you know if it would be better to buy scraps or whole skins or hides.
What`s the difference between lambskin and cowhide?
Cowhide is a vey durable type of leather. It is usually thicker and heavier than lambskin. It is used in making shoes, boots, saddles, or any other garment or accessory which needs rigidness. Lambskin is soft, supple and is lighter and more flexible. It is also very durable and used to make garments and accessories or anything else which you want to give a softer, lighter finish to.
