Leather TreasureShopUSA fosters an amazingly healthy relationship with artisans. Now and then, We shine our spotlight on one of these incredibly talented craftsmen and women who have ventured into a unique space, continually coming up with great designs that end up shaping the fashion industry. On this day, our drums are rolling, and all eyes are on the Carolyn Cuff, a design that borrows from diverse worlds to come up with a brilliant product-an aesthetic masterpiece, to say the least.
The Carolyn Cuff is one of Dana Rudolph’s craftwork designs using lambskin leather. The inspiration behind this piece, Dana highlights, was Wonder Woman and from the designs, the allusion to the superhero’s bracelet is made apparent. However, the name the bracelet carries has a deeper sense of value and meaning as explained by the designer.
“…the name The Carolyn Cuff is a dedication to a real Wonder Woman who passed on this June.”
“This project is one I submitted to the bead, and button show which will be in Milwaukee, WI next June,” the designer explains. She also goes ahead to express her confidence in her creations saying that she expects to sell out during the show.
“I have not worked in leather too much in my career, but I wanted to make a wide cuff featuring a Swarovski crystal in the center” Dana explains. The bracelet, being an addition to her forty years’ worth long list of jewelry designs, is an expression of how venturing into new spaces can be both fulfilling and productive. The designer’s work centers on beadwork, and she even owns a bead store, ‘My Bead Gallery,’ available on http://www.mybeadgallery.com.
Dana highlights how she was overwhelmed by the beauty and quality of the leather she received, a vital addition to her final product design that she nailed hands down.
Taking steps into unfamiliar spaces is not entirely threatening as can be seen from Dana’s experience. Being crafty requires that we diversify our art to create more appealing products, attract an enormous client base, as well as discover newer aspects of crafting that would spark our creativity. Keep working on your craft, and you may just be our next artisan to get featured in our leather artisan spotlight.
